Engineering Team Leader

Severnside Dairy, Gloucestershire (GL10 2DG)
Permanent | Monday–Friday

At Müller, we’re proud to be one of the UK’s most loved dairy brands. For over 30 years, our products have been part of everyday life — and today we’re the 7th most chosen FMCG brand in the UK, picked from supermarket shelves more than 208 million times every year. We continue to invest in our people, our sites, and our technology as we grow.

We’re now recruiting an Engineering Team Leader to join our Severnside Dairy — a high‑volume, complex manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, leading from the front, and acting as a key point of escalation for engineering issues.

The Role

You’ll lead a team of up to 14 engineers, with typically 4-5 engineers on site per shift, alongside contractors. While this is not a shift engineer role, a minimum level of hands‑on engineering experience is essential, with an expectation that you are regularly present on the shop floor in a supervisory leadership capacity.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and cost‑effective maintenance delivery, driving continuous improvement, and developing engineering capability across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands‑on leadership on the shop floor, acting as a point of escalation for engineering and maintenance issues
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineers through effective coaching, mentoring and performance management
  • Plan resources effectively to ensure adequate plant cover and delivery of planned maintenance schedules
  • Manage contractors and maintenance suppliers, including performance reviews and compliance
  • Support and deliver the site Maintenance Excellence roadmap
  • Analyse CMMS data to support forward planning and equipment improvement opportunities
  • Drive RCA, 5 Why, FMECA and Reliability Centred Maintenance activities
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance effectiveness and cost efficiency
  • Fully support end‑to‑end PMS processes and departmental 5S standards
  • Mentor apprentices and support ongoing engineering development
  • Liaise with OEMs and suppliers to drive standardisation, reliability improvements and cost efficiencies

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Full people management responsibility, including performance reviews, development planning and employee relations
  • Create clear purpose and direction aligned to OGSM deliverables and Müller values
  • Promote a strong safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with all H&S standards
  • Coach and embed Operational Excellence principles and tools, encouraging engineering‑led OE projects
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to improve site and business performance

Skills & Experience

  • Completed engineering apprenticeship (essential)
  • Strong hands‑on engineering background within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience leading people and/or contractors — essential (this may be as a Team Leader, Shift Lead or Supervisor)
  • Comfortable working in a shop‑floor‑based leadership role and managing day‑to‑day engineering priorities
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset

What We Offer

  • Up to 10% annual bonus
  • Health care cash plan
  • 4x life assurance
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Access to the PerkBox Rewards Platform (retailer discounts & savings)
  • Ongoing career development and progression opportunities
  • Supportive, team‑focused working environment
