We are currently recruiting in our Market Drayton team for a Senior Automation Engineer. We are looking for an experienced individual to improve, develop and maintain automation systems throughout the organisation in order to support the business and achieve our aim to become the biggest and best chilled dairy & Ingredients Company in the UK.


Your challenge


In this role the key responsibilities will include:


  • Develop a culture of best practice and innovation through internal and external industry benchmarking.
  • A high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong team work skills, with an ability to motivate others and to lead or manage teams and projects
  • Respond immediately to automation breakdowns in the factory, providing frontline Automation support where required.
  • To undertake automation projects or part projects from initial conception to completion and ensure that project work meets internally generated specifications.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and quality systems.
  • Develop ideas to improve efficiency and operation, take a keen interest in continuous improvement innitiatives.
  • Administer and archive automation software to ensure successful replacement of all automation systems and maintain all automation records and documentation.
  • To undertake site work at other work based in other production facilities as directed by the Chief Engineer and able to work extended hours and provide out of hours support to the  Automation Department .
  • Produce detailed technical documentation for purchasing and training manuals.
  • Ordering of parts and close monitoring of spares and material resource.
  • Prioritisation of workload.



Key skills & experience


  • It is essential to have minimum HNC/HND in Engineering.
  • A degree in engineering discipline is desirable.
  • 5 years and plus experience in Process Automation engineering, preferably the food industry.
  • Experience developing and commissioning with Siemens S7, S5, ABB and Wonderware. Advantage Rockwell  and WinCC.
  • Understanding of Industrial Networking (Ethernet, Profibus and ASI).
  • Ability to fault find within electrical panel is essential.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences is essential.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products is essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Proactive time management skills and able to work as part of a cohesive cross functional team as well as on own.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Self-driven, pro-active and reliable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Keen to explore and utilise new technology.
