We’re recruiting… Trainee HGV Drivers

We are recruiting at our Bristol Depot for Trainee HGV Drivers to join our internal training programme where we will fully fund and support your development and upskilling to become a Category C HGV Driver within a 6 month period. During the programme you will also have to opportunity to learn more about our business and you will work as part of our warehouse team whilst completing your training.


It takes a lot of talent and organisation to deliver around 30% of the fresh milk consumed in Britain every day. The Müller Milk & Ingredients Distribution network of depots are strategically located to allow us to be efficient in the job that we do and ensures that our milk gets from farm to fridge quicker and fresher.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Under the support of our local Driver Training team, you will undertake all required theory and practical learning and tests in line with your training plan in order to become Category ‘C’ qualified Driver
  • Shadow other HGV drivers at the depot to learn delivery routes and build confidence and competence in completing runs
  • Operate Company HGV vehicles using a safe and fuel efficient driving style
  • Adhere to Company health and safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Drive within tachograph legislation and drivers’ hours limits, including keeping accurate records
  • Drive within all UK road regulations
  • Ensure goods are safely secured within the vehicle and safely unloaded at customer site/premises
  • Ensure goods are kept within specified temperature ranges during transit
  • Complete pre-departure vehicle checks at all times and in line with Company standards
  • Deal with all people with respect and dignity including our customers, other colleagues and members of the general public
  • Ensure accurate and adequate delivery records are kept through correct use of TC75s (handhelds)
  • Collect empty trollies at customer site/premises and return the assets to the depot when requested
  • Maintain hygiene and cleanliness of Company vehicles in your use
  • Adhere to customer site/premise rules and processes
  • Ensure vehicle defect process is adhered with to ensure concerns about our vehicles’ roadworthiness are escalated and resolved
  • When working within our warehouse, pick products and load them onto trollies to satisfy customers orders in a timely and accurate manner. Load and unload trollies onto and from Company vehicles
  • Maintain hygiene and cleanliness of the warehouse environment using the ‘clean as you go’ policy
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks and requests as instructed by management


Shift Patterns

  • 5-day rota, over 7 days per week with differing shift times 


Key skills & experience

  • Relevant experience in a similar role is desirable
  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy skills
  • A positive thinking and self-motivated individual
  • An effective team member who works well on their own initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates an excellent attitude to work
  • No more than 6 minor points on driving licence (No CDs, DDs, DRs or INs)



  • A competitive salary, an overtime rate of x1.5 and premium rates for weekends (Saturday x1.5 and Sunday x2)
